(My solo road trip of western Canada – Tuesday 22nd September)
I was told by so many people who I had spoke to before and during my trip that I must visit Moraine Lake, I think you will agree through the photos and the videos that they gave me the correct information,
The place was truly bliss, mindbogglingly beautiful and it’s beauty changed in accordance with the height and angle you looked at it, probably one of the best places I have had my lunch!
The colour, reflections, calmness and sheer elegance was a true gift and was increasing my eagerness to see more of this area.
Moraine Lake is a glacially-fed lake in Banff National Park, 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) outside the Village of Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada.
It is situated in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, at an elevation of approximately 6,183 feet (1,885 m). The lake has a surface area of .5 square kilometres (0.19 sq mi).
The lake, being glacially fed, does not reach its crest until mid to late June. When it is full, it reflects a distinct shade of blue. The colour is due to the refraction of light off the rock flour deposited in the lake on a continual basis.
Moraine Lake is a key area for grizzly bears in Banff National Park. It contains critical bear habitat where a concentration of female grizzlies live and raise their cubs.
Visitor access is managed in order to protect visitors and minimize disturbance to bears.
